Author's Note: Old old old fic. Cut lyris are from Avenue Q.

It had all been Kowalksi's fault, really.

Kowalski's musings as they griped about Alice one day...

"Hate?"

The other three penguins had never questioned the word before.

"I'm not sure if I hate her. I'm not sure I really understand the concept of hate."

But hate isn't something you understand, it's something you just feel.

"Like love! But angry."

It's always like love with Private. Hmm. Good kid, though.

"Well I don't understand love either."

True.

"But I'm not sure if there's much of a difference."

Kowalski says crazy things, but this... What is this supposed to mean?

"I mean, I think they go hand-in-hand."

Private seems appaled.

"The more you love someone, the more you hate when they do wrong, right?"

He tilts his head to the side, unable to understand his teammates confusion.

"And the other way around, really. When you hate someone... Well, isn't there love there, too? When they surprise you?"

When they surprise you.

And share. And try to help. And save the day.

Damn.

"Of course, I'd have to run some experiments to make sure that was absoluetly true..."

But you know. You don't need to test and test and test again.

He's right.

And you're head-over-heels in love with the guy you hate.
